Here’s how it works:

  1. Apply via the form below. It may be filled out by the youth or a parent or guardian.

  2. Receive notification of approval via email with info about scheduling the first session with Darren (in person on Long Island or Zoom anywhere in the world).

  3. Receive the free instrument (acoustic guitar or keyboard) in the mail.

  4. Meet with Darren for up to 4 Zoom sessions (1 per week) to write the song. No musical experience is required. Darren will teach basic guitar or piano skills along with helping the youth write the song.

  5. Receive a professionally recorded version of the song within 4 weeks of completion (option for the youth to add his/her own voice to the song if desired).

  6. Receive additional free music lessons with Darren or another Songs of Hope teacher if desired.
